About us.

Tow hitches are in Bill Downing's blood. His maternal grandfather, Art Denny, started E-Z Trailer Hitches in a 4,000-square-foot building on Myrtle avenue in the Los Angeles suburb of Monrovia way back in 1946. Four years later, Bill's father, Bob, bought the company from grandpa Art. Sometime later, Bob and some friends built the 13,000-square-foot, highly-visible white building on five acres Bob bought just across the ally from the original building and E-Z Hitches, later to be renamed The Hitch Depot, had a spacious new home. When Bob "sort of" retired in 1972, Bill's brothers took over the company and Bill, 21 years old at the time, was in and out of the business. In 1984, when his brothers sought other pastures, Bill and his lovely wife, Shawna "Big Red", took over the business, and have been operating it ever since.

The company once built truck hitches, mud flaps, brackets, ball mounts, goose necks and all types of "H-style" RV hitches as well as camper extensions and custom-made racks. Designing and building specialty towing related components are a company tradition. Bill carries on the tradition today when time allows and customers request such items. Why should you buy from us rather than from anybody else, in Bill Downing's own words:" we make our customers feel comfortable about the products we sell and our experience in installing everything we sell. I tell my guys, 'Don't do it fast. Do it right.' Towing can be very dangerous if it is done with poorly installed equipment. I sell a service. This company's been here more than 50 years. A customer comes to us and knows his job will be done right." how to get there
